Ma’ala Project – Netanya, Israel
The Ma’ala project was established to train members of the mentally ill community to effectively manage their free time and to learn new tools that may help them to find paying jobs.
Ten Finjan volunteers have been actively involved in the Ma’ala project since September 2003, with the aim of introducing the Ma’ala club members to the social-economic culture that has developed around the computer. Finjan’s volunteers have set up a computer network that includes five computers, an Internet connection and a printer. They meet twice a month for two-hour sessions with the mentally ill club members. The members’ favorite activities are Internet surfing, computer games, writing and drawing using various Office tools. While the members’ computer proficiency has steadily improved, the most important result of our involvement in the project is the personal relationships that have developed between the Ma’ala club members and the Finjan volunteers. |
